Neahkahnie Mountain, Oregon
I daydream about running the length of the Oregon Coast Trail in one giant extravaganza. But I can’t imagine it will happen. I don’t think my body could withstand the mileage needed to get it done in a reasonable amount of time.
But each time I’m out there, the Firs and the Spruce, the spiraling encouragement of the Swainson’s Thrush and the crushing echoes of the pounding surf lure me into a trance and I imagine that I’m in the middle of that 400-mile quest.
I always bite off a few chunks when we go to coast as we did earlier in the month. I guess that’s my way of trying to do it all at once. But who knows. A big journey has to start somewhere and that’s usually with a daydream.
