My boys call each other Chicken Head sometimes when they’re arguing. I don’t really know if it’s an insult or not, so I let it slide. It could be worse.
Their choice of words always reminds me of seeing blues man T-Model Ford work the crowd into a trance as he howled an extended version of his tune Chicken Head Man at Pickathon in 2010. He had people dancing on stage and a huge smile on his face.
Pickathon has exposed me to more great music than I ever could have found on my own. T-Model Ford is one of those great little discoveries. Making pictures of him and hearing his music and stories that day while sitting in a field on a farm in Oregon stands out as one of those I-can’t-believe-that-just-happened moments.
He died on Tuesday. He was 94 or 93 or 89. No one really knows.
